Not all debts are created equal. Receiving sound debt advice these days can be difficult. The worst thing you can do is to ignore your debt problems completely. For this reason, it is important to making a list of the creditors you owe, just like when creating a budget, and determine which debts absolutely must be paid before any others. Typically the top priority debts are any debts to creditors that are threatening to take legal action against you.

In many cases if you just contact these creditors over the phone or in writing they are more than willing to work with you through your financial problems. So don’t ignore their calls. Also, don’t take advantage of their good will if they are willing to help you out.

In many cases doing this on your own by creating a budget and sticking to it may not be an option for you; in which case you should seek some professional debt advice immediately. Go over all of your debt options carefully before making a final decision.
